Vintage Mid-Century Solid Oak Desk with 6 drawers, Kjærnulf style, Denmark 1960s

This striking freestanding executive brutalist desk, attributed to Danish designer Henning Kjærnulf, is a masterclass in mid-century Scandinavian craftsmanship.

Crafted in Denmark circa 1960, the piece is constructed mostly from solid with veneered oak on the side/back panels, showcasing a warm, natural grain and a rich patina developed over decades.

The desk’s silhouette is defined by Kjærnulf’s signature architectural approach, blending Baroque-inspired sculptural elements with the clean, functional lines of modernism.

Most notable are the sculpted, turned oak legs, which provide a dramatic visual contrast to the expansive, flat tabletop. The width of the leg-room area is 60cm (23.6in).

Functional as it is beautiful, the desk features a symmetrical six-drawer configuration. Each drawer is fitted with original brass ring pulls, and the top drawers include working locks with keys. Each drawer measures 38cm deep by 30cm (14.9×11.8in).

Another main feature of this desk is its open back bookshelf, measuring 130cm wide, 22cm deep and 29cm in height. (51.2inx8.6inx11.4in)

Designed for versatility, the reverse side often includes a built-in bookshelf or cabinet, allowing it to be placed prominently in the center of a room.
