Vintage 1960s Danish Brutalist Oak Sideboard, in the style of Henning Kjærnulf

Presenting this unique Danish sideboard crafted in the 1960s, a masterclass in the Brutalist aesthetic as interpreted through Mid-Century Scandinavian design. Rendered in beautifully grained solid oak, the piece immediately draws the eye with the architectural boldness characteristic of Henning Kjærnulf.

The facade is defined by three seamlessly integrated drawers, each featuring recessed, wave-like carved panels that create a sense of rhythmic movement. These are accented by original, patinated brass pull handles that add a touch of traditional warmth to the rugged oak. Below, the piece opens into a generous, split-compartment display area, including a central cable port that subtly adapts this vintage treasure for contemporary media use.

The lower profile is defined by a deep, scalloped apron, a signature Kjærnulf design element, which transitions into sturdy, tapered legs. This juxtaposition of “razor-cut” geometry and organic curves makes it a versatile statement piece. The piece also features in its centre a small round hole at the back, neatly allowing for a wired lamp to be placed in the shelf area.

The shelf space on the left measures 42cm deep (16.5in) by 76cm (30in) and 33.5cm (13.1) (6,2in) in height. The right shelf is similarly 42D x 33.5H and 37cm in width (14.5in). The apron is instead 16cm (6.2in) from the floor. The three drawers all measure 36.5cm x 33cm (14.3 x 13in).
