Antique 1870s, Pair of Mahogany Chairs and Walnut Canterbury Side Table Set of 3

Late Victorian parlor table in solid walnut — nineteenth-century Danish cabinetmaking with practical sculptural detailing. The round walnut tabletop sits atop a turned central pedestal column, beneath which three small canterbury-style open ledges with turned spindle gallery rails are arranged at equal intervals around the column — designed to hold magazines, sheet music, or small books within easy reach while seated. The piece rests on a graceful tripod base of three elegantly curved sabre legs sweeping outward and down.

Remarkably, the table is constructed entirely without screws — only hand-cut joinery and wooden pegs. The warm walnut patina has developed beautifully over decades. The table is structurally sound and in good condition, with character marks consistent with its age. A wonderful complement to antique parlor seating or as a standalone accent piece in a refined sitting room or library.

Chairs, The richly figured solid mahogany frames showcase classical Victorian profile design: gently arched upholstered backrests crowned with curved wooden top rails, decorative turned baluster front legs with classical knop, collar and ring detailing, and elegantly curved sabre back legs. Small carved wooden bosses at the front seat corners add a refined sculptural detail typical of the high Victorian period.

The chairs retain their original red and cream vertical striped upholstery with hand-applied decorative rope cord trim — a beautifully aged textile. The fabric is in good condition with no holes or tears, and the chairs are ready to use as parlor, dining, or accent chairs, could be reupholstered to refresh the look.
