This exceptional Mid-Century Modern wingback armchair is a masterclass in period-appropriate tailoring and sculptural form. We are not certain who designed and produced this chair, but it shows strong similarities to the work of Frits Henningsen, Fritz Hansen, and Carl Malmsten. Exemplifying the refined aesthetic of the 1950s, the chair features a striking high-back silhouette with subtly flared “wings” and elegant, integrated armrests that create a sense of both privacy and sophisticated comfort.
The armchair is expertly upholstered in a vibrant, multi-tonal striped fabric, dominated by deep indigo and scarlet hues. This vertical pattern emphasizes the chair’s commanding height and features classic button-tufting across the interior backrest, adding architectural depth to the textile.
The piece is anchored by four tapered teak legs, each finished with original brass-capped ferrules, providing a warm, organic contrast to the bold upholstery. Its clean lines and balanced proportions make it a versatile statement piece, perfect for adding a touch of vintage character to a contemporary study or a curated living space. This chair remains in excellent structural condition, showcasing the enduring quality of mid-century craftsmanship.
The armrests’ height is 57cm (22.4in)
